Dry Creek Flood Control, initial treatment (Napa County, CA)

Dry Creek, in Napa County, is a tributary to the Napa River. A private landowner requested assistance with ongoing lateral erosion causing damage to his property. StreamWise recommended and installed a series of simple rock vanes that fit into the natural stream setting and substrate. The vanes were designed to direst flood flow forces into a more central portion of the channel, away from the exposed outside meander of the stream. The first vanes were installed in the summer of 2003 and were monitored to determine their effectiveness. In 2004 surveys indicated that the vanes performed as designed and additional areas were proposed for treatment. The additional work is scheduled for summer of 2005.
